2. What Apex does

Apex works across two disciplines, covering 17 named services.

Fire Engineering (design-stage analysis and strategy) — work that shapes a building before and during construction: fire strategies, retrospective fire strategies, PAS 9980 surveys (FRAEW), CFD and evacuation modelling, planning and fire safety statements, fire safety engineering design and strategy reports, construction-stage and handover reports, Building Safety Act and regulatory compliance, and fire advisory and specialist support.

Fire Safety (assurance for standing buildings) — work that establishes what is actually in a building and what to do about it: fire risk assessments, fire compartmentation surveys, fire door surveys, fire safety audits, construction-phase FRAs, fire separation and compartmentation, Regulation 38 fire safety information, and fire remediation project management.

3. Independence

Apex holds no installation arm and no remediation contracts. Findings and recommendations reflect risk and regulation, not a follow-on sale. This is stated as a structural fact of the business, not a marketing claim — see the case studies below, several of which turn on this point explicitly (a public-sector or leaseholder-funded client needing advice free of a commercial interest in the remediation that follows).

4. Accreditations and memberships

Apex holds the following:

BAFE SP205 (Life Safety Fire Risk Assessment) certification is in progress; it is not yet held and does not appear as a certification or badge on this site until it is.

No other accreditation, registration or certification is claimed.

5. Insurance

Apex holds professional indemnity (PI) and public liability (PL) insurance. Certificates and policy details are available on request as part of the tender/compliance pack. Cover limits are not published on this site while a scheduled adequacy review of those limits against tender requirements is in progress.

Employers' liability: Apex is a sole-director business with no employees, which is exempt from the statutory requirement to hold EL insurance. This will be revisited if that position changes.

7. Standards worked to

Apex's engineering and assessment work is carried out against, and cites, the following instruments and standards where they apply to a given project:

  • Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
  • Building Safety Act 2022
  • Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022
  • PAS 9980:2022
  • BS 9999 / BS 9991
  • BS 7974
  • Approved Document B
  • Regulation 38
